Ryan Schneider & David Owen teach retirement strategies at Dec. 13 Lunch & Learn

Our Dec. 13 Lunch & Learn was a huge success, thanks to guest speaker Ryan Schneider and all of the attendees who came out for this excellent and educational event. Ryan is the VP of Business Development at Self-Directed IRA Services. He gave a great presentation covering the differences between a variety of retirement accounts, and how a self-directed IRA can be used to invest in alternative investments, such as real estate, or LLCs such as A List Partners. Many of our attendees brought excellent questions for Ryan, who took the time to provide each individual with a thoughtful answer.

Unlike traditional 401ks or IRAs, self-directed IRAs open Americans to a large world of investments that is normally restricted by “inside-of-the-box” investment institutions. The benefits of using tax-free or tax-differed money to invest in your retirement are obvious. Ryan highlighted an example of an investor who purchased land through a self-directed Roth IRA, which uses after-tax money to invest with the advantage of tax-free grow. In this real scenario, the individual bought land that contained a billboard. The IRA went on to grow to more than $750,000 through advertising sales from that billboard – and in a Roth IRA, all of that growth is tax free.

A List Partners continues its financial education series next month with featured speaker Robert Buchanan, President of Pride of Austin Homes.

Robert will teach best practices for financing Real Estate investment projects and debunk the myth that you need great credit to fund real estate rehabs or new construction with the OPM strategy (Other People’s Money). Attendees will also learn how to properly package and submit a project to get fast, effective funding from lenders.

The Lunch & Learn will conclude with a construction Q & A for flippers, builders, and project managers of all experience levels.
Rob is a member of the Home Builders Association of Austin and has presented to groups of international real estate investors, and most recently hosted the breakout session entitled “Construction Lending Best Practices” at the American Association of Private Lenders Annual Conference in Las Vegas in November 2012.
